Rússíbanar

For over 10 years has Rússíbanar combined different musical styles and played own arrangements of well known classical pieces, klezmer songs and other entertainment music. The band members have all different backgrounds and represent the elite of icelandic music scene, every one in their own genre.

Rússíbanar has recorded 5 CD’s. The first three contain mixed selection of tunes. The latest two CD’s include material especially written for the band, Hjálmar Ragnarsson composed music for a theater play “Cyrano” that Rússíbanar performed in the National theater of Iceland and Hróðmar Ingi Sigurbjörnsson wrote a piece for Rússíbanar and a blended choir “Hjörturinn skiptir um dvalarstað”. The band “Rússíbanar” was formed by the late guitarist Einar Kristján Einarsson in february 1996. Since then have many artists played in the band but the current members being:

  • Guðni Franzson, clarinet
  • Jón Skuggi, bass
  • Kristinn Árnason, guitar
  • Matthías M.D. Hemstock, drums and percussion
  • Tatu Kantomaa, accordion
