There will be 24 hours of tango in Reykjavik 9.-10. February. An Icelandic cellist Hrafnkell Orri Egilsson has called together 5 musicians and this quintet will perform argentinian tango on saturday 9. february at 22:30 in Iðnó. You can read more about the Tango marathon here: www.tango.is

The years pass quickly… it wasn’t so long ago it was Christmas and here we go again. 
Reykjavik Stadium (Laugardalshöll) was sold out, not once but three times! About 9000 guests saw the Christmas concert of Björgvin Halldórsson on 8th and 9th of December. The concert was called “Jólagestir Björgvins Halldórssonar” and the guests were: Sigríður Beinteisdóttir, Svala Björgvinsdóttir, Helgi Björnsson, Stefán Hilmarsson, Eyjólfur Kristjánsson, Friðrik Ómar, Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir, Björgvin Franz, Ragnar Bjarnason, Edgar Smári and Bjarni Arason. “Fimm í tangó” is the name of a group of young artists performing tango music. For the time being the emphasis is layed on Finnish tango and there will be three short tango concerts in November.

I helped an old friend Guttormur Sigfússon to publish a book “Tjáning í tónum” with his own songs that he has written during the years. There aren’t so many books available that include Icelandic accordion music properly written for the instrument so this is a nice addittion to the Icelandic accordion and dance music literature. There are 20 songs in the book and the book is available from the author and EG Tónar. – Tatu
Rússíbanar is going for a mini-tour in west-Iceland 10. – 14. September. The band will perform for children in 12 elementary schools and playing 4 “evening concerts”, total 21 performances in 5 days.

The seventh accordion course will be held in Äkäslompolo, north Finland on July 16th to 20th. The 5 day course includes private lessons for 21 participants and a concert where everyone performs for real audience. The teachers are Janne Lindgren, Visa Wirén and Tatu Kantomaa.
